Book Shelf: Not Quite A Husband by Sherry Thomas

Their marriage lasted only slightly longer than the honeymoon—to no one’s surprise, not even Bryony Asquith’s. A man as talented, handsome, and sought after by society as Leo Marsden couldn't possibly want to spend his entire life with a woman who rebelled against propriety by becoming a doctor.

Why, then, three years after their annulment and half a world away, does he track her down at her clinic in the remotest corner of India? Leo has no reason to think Bryony could ever forgive him for the way he treated her, but he won’t rest until he’s delivered an urgent message from her sister—and fulfilled his duty by escorting her safely back to England. But as they risk their lives for each other on the journey home, will the biggest danger be the treacherous war around them—or their rekindling passion?

Review:

First off, I have to begin my saying that I feel incredibly bad that it took me so long to read this book. I originally won this off Goodreads First Reads a while back, and when I moved house it got misplaced. I admit I didn’t look too hard for it, and when I found it last week I decided that I had to read it.

To be perfectly honest this is outside my comfort zone--way, way, way outside my comfort zone. I don’t usually read these kinds of books, nor to I tend to like them, but I surprised myself finding this one not too bad. For the type of novel it is, it’s very good. The author has a way of writing that you feel the sensuality and actually are drawn to the characters. The writing itself is flawless; I can’t fault it. I admit that I was bored at times....sometimes the story felt like it dragged on to me, but the romantic parts and steamy parts were good.

I found I wasn’t all to fussed on the main characters as individuals, although I did understand why they both felt the way they did, I just couldn’t connect with them like I would have like to. Again, I think this stems from it not being my preferred genre. I just find it hard to contemplate why people acted the way they did during these times. While there is something alluring about the time, I can’t imagine living in it--it’d be horrible. Anyway when Leo and Bryony were together I found that I liked the banter between them and I certainly understood why Bryony felt the way she did about him. Regardless of their history with one another, there was no denying their chemistry. Thomas has done an excellent job here. What he did (cheating) was inexcusable and yet I still like Leo. There were times when he had a certain charm and I liked that he could be wicked.

I was happy with the ending of this book and felt like it ended well. I was glad to see them give it another shot and see that they led a good life together.
All in all, not bad. A sure hit for fans of this genre, although not my cup of tea.....

As I won this from Goodreads as a first read book, the author Sherry Thomas has signed the book and sent a letter along, as you can see below. While I know I wasn't very fair for taking so long to read this, I sure do appreciate this.
