Book Shelf: Kiss of Frost (Mythos Academy #2) by Jennifer Estep

I’m Gwen Frost, a second-year warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, and I have no idea how I’m going to survive the rest of the semester. One day, I’m getting schooled in swordplay by the guy who broke my heart—the drop-dead gorgeous Logan who slays me every time. Then, an invisible archer in the Library of Antiquities decides to use me for target practice. And now, I find out that someone at the academy is really a Reaper bad guy who wants me dead. I’m afraid if I don’t learn how to live by the sword—with Logan’s help—I just might die by the sword...

Review:

Kiss of Frost is the second installment in Jennifer Estep’s Mythos Academy series and sees heroine Gwen Frost find herself the target of an unknown foe when it becomes clear someone is out to kill her. Nike’s champion will face a new unexpected enemy as Estep weaves mythology, friendship, romance and action together in another exciting novel!

I’m really enjoying this series so far. The first novel Touch of Frost proved to be an unexpected delight for me and I enjoyed Kiss of Frost almost as much! Jennifer Estep has created a rich world of mythology within this series and I very much appreciate what she has done with each book so far.

Following seventeen year old Gwen Frost, a Gypsy with the ability to feel the emotions of others and see their memories from a simple touch, Kiss of Frost continues to see Gwen study at Mythos Academy, school for warriors and those descended from ancient races. This series is purely so much fun to read with tones of friendship, romance and traditional teen drama blending together with dangerous creatures and evil individuals.

I was very pleased to see Gwen continue to develop in Kiss of Frost. Even though she’s still very much Gwen, she’s beginning to become more comfortable at Mythos Academy thanks to her ever strong friendship with Daphne and Daphne’s boyfriend Carson. Gwen isn’t constantly alone now, and she is beginning to participate more and make new friends along the way. Her abilities are starting to develop too, as does her confidence in herself thanks to her steadfast sword Vic and some additional training sessions with Logan Quinn and a few of the other Spartans.

Jennifer Estep has written a great heroine in Gwen. She’s down to earth and natural, and although childish at times, Gwen is great to follow. She’s intelligent and quick thinking, and her sharp tongue and attitude make for some great internal monologue. I honestly enjoy Gwen’s relationships with the other characters within the story, from the platonic friendships to the relationship with her enigmatic love interest Logan.

Logan continues to be the sexy and frustrating thorn in Gwen’s side; the one she can’t help but care for and want even though he rejected her and broke her heart. Logan is still dating Savannah, but it’s clear from his actions that he cares deeply for Gwen, even if he’s not ready to admit. And Estep doesn’t disappoint with the sexual tension between Gwen and Logan and some equally adorable scenes that have me for one dying to see them as a solid couple!

Fast paced and exciting; Kiss of Frost continues to develop the ongoing story within this series. Jennifer Estep brings to light some developments that are beginning to shape the storyline and although it’s obvious where she is going, I’m still not sure what to expect. I know there’s bound to be many twists and turns to make things difficult for Gwen, and I honestly can’t wait to discover what happens next! I’m ready to dive into book three!
