Spotlight: The Trinity Key Trilogy by L.M. Fry- Excerpt

I'm thrilled to be showcasing The Trinity Key Trilogy by L.M. Fry on the blog today. Made up of Into Aether, Escape Aether and Save Aether, The Trinity Key Trilogy is a thrilling and highly enjoyable steampunk series that I definitely recommend!

Colorado teen Theodora (Theo) will do anything to find her missing mom, including travel into the hidden and mysterious Victorian subculture of Aether. She takes a ride with airship pirates to a floating island full of strange automatons and even stranger people.

After a century-old feud reignites, she uncovers the alarming truth about her family's past. Finding her mother is more important than ever.

Theo’s knock echoed along the wall. A loud grating noise replied, and a small square window opened up. Theo stood on tiptoes to look through, but she stumbled back when a robotic head popped up on the other side. His glassy brown eyes blinked, and small shutters focused in on them. Gears turned in his neck as he inspected the newcomers.

“Welcome to Aetherland Isle, home of the ‘Stein Family Clockworks Factory.’”
“Oh, my, the robot talks,” Auntie Grace exclaimed.
The head pulled back and huffed. “I am a Cybertronic Humanoid Automation Division Two, not a robot.”
“A what?” Theo asked.
“A Cybertronic Humanoid Automation Division Two, you may call me CHAD-2. Who are you?”
“I’m Theo Parson, and this is my aunt, Grace Monahan. We’re here to find my mother, Marjorie Parson.”
“Do you have an appointment?”
“No, but—
“Admittance is by appointment only. Good day.” The small window slammed shut.
“Wait!”
Wind whipped across the platform; reminding Theo of her very long day. Her patience grew short. Theo banged on the wall again. The small window ground open, and CHAD-2 stared at them from inside.
“Welcome to the Stein Family Clockworks Factory. Do you have an appointment?”
“Yes, we do!” Theo dug through her bag and opened Victoria’s letter. She held it up in front of CHAD-2. “We were invited by Victoria Corvus-Stein.”
“Very well, leave your luggage and enter.”
The window closed, the wall groaned, and two massive doors swung inward. Theo and Auntie Grace stepped into another world, and the doors closed behind them. CHAD-2 was nothing but a torso, sitting inside a guard stand. He reminded Theo of the old Esmerelda Fortune Teller machine in the NUC student center. He held his arm out.
“Welcome to Aetherland Isle, home of the Stein Family Clockworks Factory. Enjoy your stay,” the last few words faded out as CHAD-2 wound down.
“CHAD-2? Hello? Are you in there?” Theo tapped on his head. He didn’t reply. “I think he’s asleep.”
Auntie Grace didn’t respond. Theo turned to her aunt, who stood in awe at the scene around them. They’d stepped into another realm – a different time. Gas lamps flickered along cobblestone streets. Lush topiaries and flowering cherry blossoms lined the walkways in front of Victorian shops. A spring-like afternoon replaced the harsh winter gusts of home. The only thing missing in the pristine vision were people. The streets were lifeless."
