Book Shelf: Size Matters (A Perfect Fit #1) by Alison Bliss

The rules of (fake) engagement . . .
Leah Martin has spent her life trying to avoid temptation. But she's sick of low-fat snacks, counting calories, and her hyper-critical mom. Fortunately, her popular new bakery keeps her good and distracted. But there aren't enough éclairs in the world to distract Leah from the hotness that is Sam Cooper - or the fact that he just told her mother that they're engaged . . . which is a big, fat lie.

Sam sometime speaks before he thinks. So what started out as defending Leah's date-ability to her judgmental mother soon turned into having a fiancee! Now the plan is to keep up the fake engagement, stay "just friends," and make Leah's family loathe him enough to just call the whole thing off . But Sam has an insatiable sweet tooth, not only for Leah's decadent desserts but her decadent curves. Her full lips. Her bright green eyes. Yep, things aren't going quite according to plan. Now Sam has to convince Leah that he's for real . . . before their little lie turns into one big, sweet disaster.

Review:

Size Matters is the first novel in Alison Bliss’s A Perfect Fit series and is a fresh and flirty contemporary romance perfect for those who love their romance novels threaded with humour and fun.

Curvaceous beauty Leah Martin is the owner of a successful bakery and no stranger to temptation. She’s spent her life fighting the treats and deserts she’s so good at creating, and consuming, as well as the expectations of those in her life who are not happy about her weight. Enter contractor Sam, a man whose hotness gets Leah’s blood pumping….and someone who just told her mother that they’re engaged, which is absolutely not true. Sam Cooper doesn’t always think before he speaks, which is probably why he came to Leah’s defence against her nit-picking mother and announced they were engaged; a fact that definitely isn’t true seeing as they only just met. Sure, Sam can’t help but be drawn in by Leah’s delectable curves and delicious desserts, but posing as her fake fiancé was never the plan. Now he and Leah need to do find a way to get out of their fake engagement with both their reputations intact, but when their plan to convince Leah’s family that Sam is a terrible guy and can't possibly the right man for their daughter begins to backfire, will Leah and Sam realise that they may just have something together after all? Or will both be left unsatisfied?

As someone who has never been stick thin in her life, Size Matters appealed to me straight away for its curvaceous heroine and important themes. Tackling weight issues is never an easy gig, but I liked the way in which Alison Bliss explored it while still managing to keep things fun and sweet. Size Matters may be my first novel by Alison Bliss, but it definitely won’t be the last as I was won over by the fun and entertaining storyline within this easy to follow and enjoy novel.

Unfolding through both Leah and Sam’s varying POV’s, Size Matters introduced two characters who were both likable and a romance that was really sweet. Sam was a funny but sexy male lead and I understood Leah’s insecurities on a deeper level. I could understand where she was coming from having experienced similar fears and uncertainties in the past myself. Emphasizing with the heroine like this only made me cheer for her more as she finally stood up for herself and got her man.

Overall, Size Matters was a light (no pun intended!) but all-round fun novel to read. It was something you could sit back and relax with and not take too serious, while also being full of humour, sensuality and romance. I look forward to reading the next one!
